Mortgage will now be available online

Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Department of Land Management and Archives of the Government of Nepal is making the online mortgage system mandatory at the Land Revenue Offices. This step has been taken to make the service fast, convenient, and free of middlemen, in line with the government’s results-based governance management and the goal of Digital Nepal.

From now on, all the tasks of mortgage freeze and release of collateral by the banks and financial institutions will be conducted in a faceless and time-bound manner only through digital system. According to the circular issued by the department, this provision will be implemented in two phases.

The government has already made the online system mandatory for the banks and financial institutions that have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Department and have taken permission from the Land Service Center. Similarly, in case of other organizations that have not taken permission so far or are in the process, instructions have been issued to implement this system from May 1, 2083 after completing the necessary preparations.

According to the department, this new system will be implemented in all the land revenue offices across the country where the palm system has been implemented. It is believed that this will end the hassle of people visiting the Land Revenue Office, increase transparency in the service and maintain good governance.
