Kathmandu. Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr. Dr. Bishwanath Poudel has said that every economic issue should be analyzed on different grounds. He said this during the ‘On Current Economic and Banking Affairs for Economic Journalists’ Programme’ organized by Nepal Rastra Bank’s Bankers’ Training Centre and the Association of Economic Journalists (NAFIJ).
According to him, economic journalists should have the ability to analyze the impact of each issue in different sectors separately. He said such programmes would help enhance the capacity of economic journalists to analyse such issues. According to him, Nepal has lagged behind in economic development due to weak institutional structure. According to him, the problem has been seen due to weak ability to predict the future and the implementation aspect of the planned plans is also weak. He said that the country would still lag behind if new technology could not be used.
He said that the government itself should come forward and spend money on the projects that bring results when people’s morale is weak. He also said that the government should encourage the private sector to invest in the projects that will bring results. In recent times, there has been a shortage of liquidity in banks due to lack of demand for loans. He said that the government should now be proactive and spend.
Shedding light on the objectives of the programme, Buddha Raj Sharma, Director of Human Resources Department of Nepal Rastra Bank, said that the programme was organized to enhance the capacity of financial journalists who are not well versed in economics. He expressed the belief that developing the analytical capacity of the financial journalists would help the general public to understand the news related to banks and economy in a clear way.
He said that the NRB has started developing the capacity of journalists by developing the curriculum.
