Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 2 persons from Kathmandu on the charge of cheating people on the pretext of releasing them on bail. The arrestees have been identified as Hari Bahadur Thapa Magar, 45, and his wife Mithu Magar, 37, of Kathmandu.
They cheated three defendants who were arrested on the charge of involvement in criminal activities during the demonstrations on September 7 and 24 and are currently in custody in Sundhara Jail.
They said they knew the judges of the Supreme Court and assured that they would be released on bail. He had asked the victim’s side to deposit Rs 9 lakh in Mithu Magar’s bank account, citing the bail amount and lawyer’s argument expenses.
The police arrested them from Mandikhatar after it was confirmed that they had not been able to work even after receiving the money.
Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
