NEA seeks clarification from Ncell over deduction of money even when data was switched off

Kathmandu. Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has sought clarification from Ncell Axiata Limited regarding the amount deducted from the customer’s main balance in the name of ‘pay as you go’ data charge even when the data is not used or mobile data is turned off.

NTA spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said that Ncell has been directed to resolve this problem completely and make arrangements that the amount would not be deducted automatically when the data is shut down and inform the authority about it. According to Section 47 (1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053, the amount deducted unauthorizedly should be returned to the concerned customer along with compensation and if the customer is not identified, the amount should be deposited in the state treasury.

Stating that Ncell has not taken adequate initiatives to resolve this problem for a long time and has not addressed the complaints of the customers on time, the authority has also sought clarification as to why it should not take action as per the law. Ncell has also been asked to conduct an independent audit of its entire billing system, including logos and algorithm for charging data and submit its report within a month.
