Kathmandu. Free satellite internet service has been provided in collaboration with Dish Media Network Limited (DishHome) and Eutelsat OneWeb. Free satellite internet service has been provided in collaboration with DishHome and Eutelsat OneWeb to continue communication services in Rasuwa, which has been severely damaged due to the severe floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
DishHome has taken this special initiative to maintain communication and information exchange in the areas affected by the floods on September 26. With the approval and coordination of the Nepal Telecommunication Authority, DishHome has launched free one-web satellite internet service in the most affected areas of the floods in collaboration with Utelsat, which has been made available on priority basis from September 20, 2083.
Since reliable communication services are essential for rescue, relief and coordination during natural disasters, this service is currently available in government offices, security agencies, rescue and relief camps, and critical coordination centers in the affected areas. This alternative connectivity provided through Eutelsat OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit Satellite technology will serve as an alternative to the damaged terrestrial infrastructure. This will greatly help in real-time coordination and data flow between local administrations, rescue workers, and stakeholders involved in humanitarian assistance.
DishHome is committed to providing necessary communication facilities to government agencies, security personnel and affected communities in this difficult situation of disaster management and rehabilitation. The service will be extended to more locations that are high priority based on need until the telecommunications infrastructure is fully repaired and restored. This initiative is expected to contribute to emergency communications, rescue and relief operations, and strengthening the emergency resilience of the community.
