Development Bankers’ Association (DBAN) Nepal Annual General Meeting

Kathmandu. The 20th Annual General Meeting of the Development Bankers’ Association (DBAN) has been held in Kathmandu on Saturday. The 20th annual general meeting was held on March 24 under the chairmanship of Suyog Shrestha, President of the Association.

The AGM was attended by the CEOs of the member development banks associated with the association. Chairman Shrestha inaugurated the assembly by lighting the lamp on the Panas. The AGM approved the annual report of the Executive Committee for the fiscal year 2081/82 along with the auditor’s report along with the annual financial statements including balance sheet, profit and loss account and cash flow statement up to mid-Ashad 2082.

The meeting also passed a proposal regarding the appointment of auditor and determination of his/her salary for the fiscal year 2082/83. On the occasion, President Suyog Shrestha presented the annual report and highlighted the following major achievements made by the Association during the review period.

1. Represent the interests of development banks on regulatory issues under policy advocacy and coordinate with relevant agencies for necessary policy reforms

2. Enhance coordination among member banks and cooperate with stakeholders on NFRS (ECL), goAML operating guidelines, mortgage valuation etc

.

3. For the management of human resources and financial data of member development banks, research and information sharing, HR MIS and Finance MIS software have been developed to be used in the review, reference, evaluation and decision-making process of member banks, as well as a database of Domestic PEPs – Politically Exposed Persons/High Ranking Officials has been prepared and made available to member banks

.

4. Various trainings, workshops and capacity building programs have been conducted as per the needs of the member banks

5. The construction of the new office of the Association has been completed and formally

brought into operation.

Currently, out of 17 development banks, 8 are national level and 9 are regional. Development banks have been providing banking services to 8 million customers through 1,126 branches and 339 ATMs as of mid-February 2082.

In the present context, it was noted that the development banks have been providing service with dedication to the customers while facing the challenges seen in the banking and financial sector in the current context. Likewise, the regulatory body, Nepal Rastra Bank, thanked the bank for its role in consolidating the economic environment by playing a guardian role even in difficult circumstances.

Chairman Shrestha stressed on adopting technology-friendly banking system, good governance, professionalism and transparency. He thanked all the member banks, regulatory bodies and stakeholders and expressed his commitment to work continuously for the welfare of the development banks. He also wished that in the New Year 2083, the member development banks would move ahead with enthusiasm in the expansion of their business.
