Bank account to be frozen on verbal order

Kathmandu. Now, the bank account will be frozen on the verbal order.  The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has amended the Integrated Directive-2082 issued to the banks and financial institutions.

According to this, suspicious bank accounts related to financial crimes can also be frozen for a short period on the basis of verbal orders of the investigating officer.

According to NRB, banks and financial institutions should make arrangements to freeze their bank accounts for the short term 24/7 in case they receive a verbal or written request from the law enforcement authority for the reduction of financial crime.

NRB has also made a provision for every bank and financial institution to maintain a dedicated contact number on its website to facilitate such cooperation.
