Bhotekoshi flood update: 1,455 bodies found, bankers still missing, search and identification still underway

Kathmandu. Some employees of banks and financial institutions in Rasuwa and surrounding areas are still out of contact after the Bhotekoshi floods. The flood had caused extensive damage to the branches and structures of the banks. The search and identification of the missing employees is still going on.

As many as 1,455 dead bodies have been recovered from the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa district till 8 am on Thursday.

Of them, 236 were in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 73 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Two people died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.

So far, 1,334 bodies have been managed (preserved under the soil) after completing the necessary procedures to identify the bodies found. A total of 3,396 DNA samples, including 1,330 of the deceased and 2,066 of the relatives, have been collected for the identification of the bodies. The details of 1,421 unidentified bodies have also been uploaded on the website of Nepal Police.

So far, 7,975 police personnel have been deployed for rescue, search, relief distribution, dead body management and other works in the flood-affected areas. So far, the search for 4,718 missing people is underway. Similarly, 1,234 people have been kept in holding centers in different districts.
