Kathmandu. Nabil Bank Ltd. has launched ‘Nabil Clean Drinking Water Campaign’ on the occasion of World Water Day. The chairman of the bank Mr. Nirvana Chaudhary launched the campaign digitally in all 123 schools on Sunday.
Chaudhary said that the campaign has ensured clean drinking water to school-going children and provided a healthy and safe environment to them.
“So far, Nabil Bank has been able to provide pure drinking water to more than 100,000 students through 123 schools”, Chaudhary said, adding, “We are proud to conduct this project and will continue this campaign in a more effective way in the coming days”. ‘
The campaign, initiated as a part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility, focuses on improving student health, sanitation and hygiene, and ensuring sustainable access to drinking water. According to the bank, the campaign has been launched with the objective of managing pure drinking water in government and community schools.
The campaign has been launched in all seven provinces of the country. Under the campaign, eight schools in Koshi Province, 16 in Madhesh Province, nine in Bagmati Province, 10 in Gandaki Province, 36 in Lumbini Province, 15 in Karnali Province and 29 in Sudurpaschim Province have been provided clean drinking water. The campaign has technical support from Smart Water.
Access to clean and safe drinking water in schools in Nepal remains a major challenge. According to the Government of Nepal’s statistics, 98 percent of schools have access to drinking water, and 68 percent of them do not have a water purification system. To address this problem, Nabil Bank has prioritized school sanitation and hygiene programs.
Water sources are often infected with arsenic, iron, and harmful germs due to unmanaged water management, agricultural runoff, and domestic sewage drainage. As a result, children are exposed to increasing health risks associated with unsafe drinks.
