Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Laxmi Sunrise Bank Limited has partnered with WWF Nepal and Kamdi Community Forest Coordination Committee (Kamdi CFCC) to make the ‘The Goal is Green’ campaign a reality.
According to the bank, the campaign is to plant one native plant for every goal scored in all matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026. After scoring 333 goals throughout the World Cup, the bank has fulfilled its commitment to plant 333 native saplings.
Under this collaboration, WWF Nepal will provide technical support on species selection, identification of suitable planting areas and ecological restoration. The Kamdi Community Forest Coordination Committee will plant indigenous saplings suitable for the local biodiversity as well as for their long-term conservation and management. Ajaya Shah, chief executive officer of Laxmi Sunrise Bank, said, “Sustainability is a long-term strategic priority of the bank and the ‘The Goal is Green’ campaign has linked the enthusiasm for sports with climate action.
He expressed confidence that WWF Nepal’s expertise in conservation would make the campaign more effective and sustainable. WWF Country Representative Dr. On the occasion, Ghanashyam Gurung said that forest rehabilitation is not only about planting trees but also about planting indigenous species at appropriate places and ensuring long-term participation of local communities.
Chairperson of the Kamdi community forest coordination committee Mahendra Shahi expressed his confidence that this cooperation would further strengthen efforts to restore the corridor and benefit the local communities in the long run. “The Goal is Green” aims to not only limit sustainability to financial services but also to social and environmental responsibility, urging customers, businesses and communities to join collective climate actions and contribute to building a greener future in Nepal.
